Introduction to Minami Kannon Yama – The Abare Kannon

It has already been about five days since the Saki Matsuri procession, and we are eagerly looking forward to the Ato Matsuri procession.

Just a 10-second walk from THE GENERAL KYOTO Shijo Shinmachi, you will find the “Minami Kannon Yama.” This float is known for its distinctive event, also called “The Abare Kannon.”

At around 11 PM on the 23rd, during the Yoiyama of the Ato Matsuri, the deity statues of Willow Kannon and Zenjiboji are wrapped in cloth like mummies. Willow Kannon is tied to the base of the mikoshi, while a person carrying Zenjiboji leads the procession through the town.

It’s an impressive spectacle, so if you have the time, please come and see it.
